Privacy Policy

The short version: We collect the email and name you sign up with, the questions you ask, and what you save, so the app works and remembers your history. Your questions are sent to our AI provider to generate an answer. A site lookup sends the location, not your name, to public map services. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number. We don’t sell your data, run ad trackers, or use your data to train AI models. Email us anytime to see, export, or delete your data.

This policy explains what LandCode, LLC ("we," "us") collects when you use the app at landcode.app, how we use it, who we share it with, and how to see or delete it. It covers the app only; our marketing site at landcode.co has its own policy.

LandCode, LLC is a Wyoming limited liability company operating from Tennessee, USA.

1. What we collect

Account information — your email address, your name if you provide it, and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text. We record the network address used at sign-up. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your email address and name and we create or match your account from them.
What you create — the questions you ask, your Ask history, items you save to your Notebook, and any project or job-site details you enter, such as an address you look up and the coordinates and jurisdiction it resolves to.
Usage records — for each question: which model answered, how many tries it took, an estimated cost, whether the answer was shown, withheld, or refused, the first jurisdiction it cited, the topic if you used the guided intake, and a hashed version of your network address. We keep the hash, not the address, so we can tell whether one login is being used from many networks without storing where you are.
What you tell us — an email address you leave on a plan (“tell me when it is ready”) and, for the firm plan, the volume you type in; your answers to “would you pay?” at the end of the free trial; a note and an optional email when you report that a newer version of a code is published; and an optional email when you ask us to add a jurisdiction. A jurisdiction request made while signed out is counted by a hashed network address so one person counts once.
Payments — when you buy a seat or a report, you pay through Stripe on Stripe’s own pages. Stripe collects your card details; we receive a confirmation of the payment, your email address, and the last four digits of the card. We never receive or store your full card number.
Cookies and browser storage — a secure, http-only sign-in cookie and its refresh token, and a small cookie that remembers your current project. Your theme choice is stored in your browser only. We don’t use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or analytics scripts.

2. How we use it

to provide the service and generate cited answers, records, and presets;
to save your Ask history, Notebook, and projects so they’re there when you return;
to secure your account, enforce the plan you hold, and prevent abuse (for example, the hashed network address is how a seat learns it is being shared);
to bill you and keep our accounts;
to monitor usage and cost;
to check the reports and requests you send us, and to email you about them if you left an address;
to tell you when a plan you asked about is ready, if you left an address; and
to fix problems and improve LandCode.

We do not use your questions, your content, or our answers to train AI models, and our AI provider may not either.

3. Service providers we share data with

We don’t sell your personal data. We use a few providers to run the app, and share only what each needs:

Anthropic — your question text, together with the code provisions retrieved for it, is sent to Anthropic’s Claude models to generate an answer. This is core to how LandCode works. Our agreement with Anthropic does not allow it to train on that data.
Railway — hosts the app, the database where your account and content are stored, and the server logs.
Mapbox — when you search an address, the text you type is sent to Mapbox to find it. When you use the map, your browser loads map tiles directly from Mapbox, so Mapbox sees your network address and the area of the map you view.
Public map services — when you look up a site, our server sends its coordinates (not your name, account, or the address text) to the jurisdiction’s public zoning-map service, to FEMA’s flood-map service, and to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s wetlands service, to see which zone, flood area, or wetland the point falls in. A link on the result opens FEMA’s own map in your browser.
Stripe — processes payments and holds your card details under its own privacy policy.
Resend — if you use an emailed login code, your email address is used to send it.
GitHub — an encrypted copy of the database is stored each night in a private repository as a backup. It can be read only with a key we hold.

Our copies of the public codes and their source documents are stored with Cloudflare and Backblaze; they are public law and contain no personal data.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of LandCode and its users.

4. Data retention

We keep your account and content while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account, your Ask history, your Notebook, and your projects. Usage records, payment records, and the plan-interest and trial-survey rows keep the email address they were written with, so our billing and cost history stays complete; we keep those for our accounting and to prevent abuse. Deleted data may persist in encrypted backups until those backups are replaced.

5. Your choices and rights

Email support@landcode.co to see, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to close your account. You can also print or export your records from the app at any time. Because we are a small company, we handle these requests by email and reply from the same address. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act; email us and we will honor them where they apply.

6. Security

We serve the app over HTTPS, hash passwords, encrypt backups, and limit who can reach your data. No online service can be perfectly secure, so please use a unique password and tell us if anything looks wrong.

7. Children

LandCode is a professional tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product develops. We change the date above when we do, and for a material change we ask you to accept the updated Terms and Privacy Policy the next time you sign in.
